Phase controlled lamps are usually interfaced with Solid State Relays, incorporating optically coupled SCRs. However, most of these units will not operate below 24VAC, and planetaria commonly have 6VAC and 12 VAC lamps. This is where the SS 4553 Low Voltage Dimmer operates.

The SS 4553 has been designed to control lamps of 6VAC to 24VAC-- filling the gap that Solid State Relays cannot handle. Please note, however, that triac saturation is approximately 2 volts, so this dimmer is not recommended for loads less than 6VAC. Contact Sky-Skan for current loads and suggested plate layouts.
