ZOOMING
Note: Eastman Kodak and Elmo have both announced that they are discontinuing slide projector manufacture as of Summer 2004. Slide projectors and related systems, therefore, shall be sold and priced as dictated by equipment availability.
Zoom projectors add a dramatic 3-dimensional quality to your shows, as images
expand and contract.
We offer too many zoom configurations to show individually. Instead, we invite
you to build your own custom zoom from the components we offer.
First, pick a zoom lens ratio. We have three to choose from:
6:1 or 18:1.
Available zoom ratios are subject to change without notice. Call Sky-Skan for availability.
Next, decide whether you wish to have your lens furnished with our patented
AZP light level compensation
mechanism. This keeps the image at a constant light level and color temperature while it zooms.
Having selected the optics, you next choose a
projector body.
We offer a wide range of 80-slide projectors, including the Ektapro random access, Conic Image Rotator, and Navitar Arc.
Finally, decide whether you need a
manual remote control.
(All zoom projectors come equipped with a SPICE Automation interface; manual control is an option.)
Besides custom projectors, don't forget our
6 To 1 Ektagraphic Zoom
lens assembly, available for installation directly on your own Ektagraphic-type slide projector.

Because the area of an image is proportional to its diameter squared, zoom ratios of 6:1 or 18:1 offer image area ranges of 36:1 and 324:1 respectively. All Sky-Skan zoom projectors use parfocal lenses, maintaining their focus at any zoom level. |

Follow these four steps to design your own zoom projector. You'll be building an Order Number as well, so be sure to write down each Product Code as you select your components. You can then find the price in the Sky-Skan price list. The completed Order Number will be in this form:
|
SSZxx-Bxxx-AZPx-RCx |

|
Zxx |
Bxxx |
AZPx |
RCx |
All Sky-Skan zoom lenses feature sharp transfer optics to field an entire 35mm slide image.

2: AZP LIGHT LEVEL COMPENSATION
In a normal zoom projector the image brightness varies with size. As an image zooms smaller it becomes brighter, because the light is concentrated in a smaller area. Our patented AZP system corrects this flaw by gearing the diaphragm of the zoom lens to the focal length. As the image zooms from large to small the diaphragm slowly closes, compensating for the increasing light concentration. Although it is possible to achieve a similar effect by fading the lamp during the zoom, this is difficult to do well, and has the unfortunate effect of changing the color temperature. AZP gearing can be specified for any zoom projector (except the 6:1) at the time of order.

To add AZP Light Level Compensation to your projector use this Product Code in the Order Number: AZPy
For no AZP Light Level Compensation use this Product Code in the Order Number: AZPn
We build zooms on a variety of 35mm slide projector bodies. Select the one that best fits your needs.

4: SELECT A MANUAL REMOTE CONTROL
Manual Remote Controls for Sky-Skan zooms include switches for Forward, Reverse, Zoom in, Zoom Out, and potentiometers for Lamp, Zoom Rate, and Variable Speed Rotation (if projector is so equipped). Select one of the following options:
|
Series 600 Our most economical controller, this features sturdy metal toggle switches and rotary potentiometers. |
|
Series 800 Features controls identical to the Series 600, but replaces the toggle switches with illuminated pushbuttons. |
|
|
No remote If you will be controlling your zoom projector exclusively through SPICE Automation, have a custom Sky-Skan control console, or will be utilizing Sky-Skan VCI technology, you will not need to purchase a separate remote control. |
