Sky-Skan, Inc. and LodeStar Astronomy Center Unveil Full Dome Video at SIGGRAPH 2005

Nashua, NH, USA - 28th July, 2005

Sky-Skan, Inc. and LodeStar Astronomy Center of the University of New Mexico have teamed up to bring the Full-Dome Animation Theater to SIGGRAPH 2005, being held 31 July to 4 August in Los Angeles, California.

The Full-Dome Animation Theater is presented as part of the SIGGRAPH 2005 Animation Festival, where Sky-Skan’s 27-foot dome projection screen complete with spatial audio, lighting, and their flagship DigitalSky system will treat the 30,000 SIGGRAPH 2005 attendees to highlights from DomeFest 2005, LodeStar’s 3rd annual international digital dome festival. Installed in a 6-channel configuration, DigitalSky will provide over 5 million unique onscreen pixels, more than four times that of a typical fisheye projection system. The Full-Dome Animation Theater is open to SIGGRAPH attendees beginning Saturday, 30 July at 6 pm in Hall G of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

DomeFest 2005 – held 15-17 July in Albuquerque , New Mexico – was a remarkable success, with more than 500 people treated to the finest examples of immersive digital art, science, entertainment, education and experimental works created around the world. DomeFest 2005 drew 41 submissions from eight countries and provided over 110 minutes of content, from which the expert jury selected 14 pieces, resulting in the 40-minute show being presented at SIGGRAPH. Following SIGGRAPH 2005, the DomeFest 2005 show will begin a world tour, being shown in dome theaters in Auckland, New Zealand; Boulder, Colorado; Glendale, California; and Athens, Greece, among others.
