Artist J. Walt to Perform Live at New Definiti Theater

Baton Rouge, Louisiana. April 10, 2008

Sky-Skan today announced its sponsorship of the Red Stick Animation Festival taking place April 16-19. Sky-Skan will contribute a performance of J. Walt’s Spontaneous Fantasia on Friday, April 18th at 4pm. J. Walt will transform the newly upgraded Definiti® theater at Louisiana Art and Science Museum into his own 3D world called Spontaneous Fantasia. Sky-Skan is thrilled to have artists like J. Walt work with Definiti theater technology to create exciting new content

“We are so excited to be hosting J. Walt’s live, 3D interactive performance that clearly will captivate our audiences with stunning imagery,” said Jon Elvert, planetarium director.

J. Walt created a plug-in for Definiti theater DigitalSky 2 software to take advantage of the amazing picture quality and giant dome screen. Each performance unfolds live as J. Walt paints in 3D colorful worlds choreographed to music. The Definiti theater system handles translating the 3D information into a magnificent seamless picture across the dome screen. Sky-Skan invites all Red Stick attendees to enjoy the incredible visuals on the giant Definiti dome screen, all created live by J. Walt.

The Louisiana Art and Science Museum’s newly upgraded Definiti theater, the Pennington Planetarium, is host to an incredible learning experience for visitors to the museum. Louisiana Art and Science Museum offers educational and entertainment opportunities for visitors of all ages. Featured are changing fine art exhibitions, art, and science galleries for children, on-going lectures, workshops, and classes. The state-of-the-art planetarium also offers large format films. In 1967, Sky-Skan began creating unique special effects projectors for planetariums. In the 1980s, SPICE Automation was developed, synchronizing devices in planetariums and large-format film theaters. In the late 1990s, SkyVision sparked a digital revolution bringing full-dome video to planetariums. Today, advances in hardware and DigitalSky 2 software have resulted in Definiti, a full-dome digital theater system capable of real-time astronomy shows in addition to other sciences, entertainment, and art. Definiti theaters include Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, University of Notre Dame, ‘Imiloa Planetarium (Definiti 3D: world’s first 3D Stereo planetarium), Horizon Planetarium (Australia), and the Queen Mary 2.
