Sky-Skan Introduces Definiti® Solo Projection System
Full-Dome Solution for Under $100,000USD Including Installation and Training
Nashua, NH. June 17, 2008
Sky-Skan today announced Definiti® Solo, a low-cost full-dome projection system. The new Solo is simple to maintain with only one lamp and projector, yet runs the complete DigitalSky 2 package with all the plug-ins, data sets, and updates larger systems enjoy. The system starts at under $100,000USD including installation and training. The Definiti Solo projection system option provides the full Definiti theater experience but with simple maintenance and a low starting price.
Sky-Skan president Steve Savage said, “We want to provide solutions for the full range of theaters from large to small. Smaller sites may only have one or two staff members yet are responsible for educating and inspiring countless young people just as much as the larger institutions. Sky-Skan is pleased to provide systems like Definiti Solo that meet their maintenance and financial needs without compromising on software and support.”
Definiti Solo has a single-lamp 3,500-lumen projector and fisheye lens located in the theater’s center pit. The resolution is 1050x1050 pixels (1.1 megapixels) with a full-dome image. The system comes with the full DigitalSky 2 software, installation, and training. Membership in the DigitalSky Academy (DSA) is also included. For theaters desiring the simplicity of a single projector, Definiti Solo provides an exciting new option starting at under $100,000USD.
In 1967, Sky-Skan began creating unique special effects projectors for planetariums. In the 1980s, SPICE Automation was developed, synchronizing devices in planetariums and large-format film theaters. In the late 1990s, SkyVision sparked a digital revolution bringing full-dome video to planetariums. Today, advances in hardware and DigitalSky 2 software have resulted in Definiti, a full-dome digital theater system capable of real-time astronomy shows in addition to other sciences, entertainment, and art. Definiti theaters include Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, University of Notre Dame, ‘Imiloa Planetarium (Definiti 3D: world’s first 3D Stereo planetarium), Horizon Planetarium (Australia), and the Queen Mary 2.
